Circulating supply multiplied by the current price.
Why it matters when you trade
Market cap answers "what is this network valued at", not "how much money went in". It is also trivially gamed by supply choices: two tokens at identical caps can have wildly different float, unlock schedules and concentration. A low price per token means nothing on its own — supply is the other half of the sentence and it is the half beginners ignore.
Worked example
A $0.002 token with 500 billion supply is a $1B network. A $80 token with 12 million supply is a $960M one. The cheap-looking token is the larger.
