What it means

How much size sits in the book or pool near the current price — how much you can trade before you move it.

Why it matters when you trade

Depth is the number that decides whether a market is tradable at your size. Two pairs can show the same price and the same 24-hour volume while one absorbs a $50,000 order for two basis points and the other gaps three percent. Volume tells you how much traded; depth tells you what it will cost you to trade now. Judge a market by depth, and always at the size you actually intend to use.

Worked example

Within 0.5% of mid, pair A holds $2.1M of resting bids and pair B holds $40,000. The same $100,000 sell is a non-event in A and a crash in B.

See it on live markets

DexLadder runs market depth against live market and pool data, with simulated capital, so you can watch it act on an order instead of reading about it — no account, no wallet, nothing installed.
