What it means

A token designed to hold a steady value, usually one unit of a fiat currency.

Why it matters when you trade

Stablecoins are the settlement layer of crypto trading — most pairs are quoted in them, so their credibility underwrites the price of everything else. The design matters: fully reserved fiat-backed, over-collateralised crypto-backed, and algorithmic models carry entirely different failure modes, and the algorithmic ones have failed spectacularly and suddenly. "Stable" is a design goal, never a guarantee.

Worked example

A pool quoted in a stablecoin that slips to $0.94 reprices every asset in it by 6% with no move in the assets themselves.

See it on live markets

DexLadder runs stablecoin against live market and pool data, with simulated capital, so you can watch it act on an order instead of reading about it — no account, no wallet, nothing installed.
