Crypto profit calculator

Gross profit is the number people quote. Net profit after both fees is the number that hits the account — this shows both, plus the price you actually break even at.

Break-even is higher than your entry

You pay on the way in and on the way out, so the exit price that returns you to flat is:

break-even = entry × (1 + entry fee) ÷ (1 − exit fee)

At 0.05% each side that is only a fraction above entry — but multiply it by turnover. A strategy taking 200 round trips a year at 0.10% per side spends 40% of a fully deployed account on fees alone, before a single point of slippage.

Return on margin is not return on risk

Leverage divides the capital tied up, so the percentage return looks larger while the money at stake is unchanged. A 12% move at 10× reads as 120% on margin and remains a 12% move — the only thing leverage changed is how little room you had to be wrong.

What this deliberately leaves out

Funding on perpetual positions, slippage on entry and exit, and any borrow cost. Add them before believing a backtest: for short-horizon strategies they are usually larger than the fee line.

Questions people actually ask

Why is my realised profit smaller than the chart suggests?

The chart shows mid price. You bought at the ask, sold at the bid, paid two fees and, on anything thin, gave up slippage on both legs.

Should fees be added to cost basis for tax?

Treatment differs by jurisdiction — some allow fees in the basis or netted against proceeds, and India's section 115BBH allows only the cost of acquisition. See the jurisdiction pages.

Does this handle shorts?

Enter an exit price below the entry and the gross figure turns negative for a long. For a short, invert the two prices to read the magnitude.
